Privacy Policy

Last updated September 19, 2026 · Applies to the Ariadne iOS app

Ariadne ("we," "us," or "our") is a mobile app that listens to speech and sound around you and offers short spoken replies. This policy explains what Ariadne collects, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version: Ariadne collects only what it needs to work — recognized speech text (not audio), your location while the app is open, and what you deliberately choose to share to the community map. There's no account, no login, and no selling of your data.

01

Information we collect

CategoryWhat it includesWhere it goes
Recognized speech Text from on-device or system speech recognition — the raw audio itself is never stored or sent anywhere Sent to Ariadne's backend once, to generate reply suggestions
Typed text Anything you type instead of speaking Same as above
Location Precise location, while the app is open Used live to center the community map and place a pin — not stored beyond an active share
Shared map content A response you choose to share, plus an optional preset reaction (never free text) Stored publicly in Ariadne's database (Google Firebase)
Anonymous device ID A random identifier with no name, email, or account attached Stored alongside anything you share, so you can find and remove it later
Quick Phrases Phrases you save for one-tap replies Stays on your device only — never sent to us

We do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, or any account information
  • Audio recordings — only the recognized text passes through the app
  • Contacts, photos, or calendar data
  • Payment or financial information
  • Advertising or analytics identifiers
02

How we use it

Everything Ariadne collects goes toward one goal: delivering the app's own features.

  • Generating reply suggestions — recognized or typed text is sent to Ariadne's backend to produce a few short response options.
  • Centering the community map — location is used to show the map around where you are.
  • Publishing a shared pin — if you choose to share a response, its text, optional reaction, location, and your anonymous ID are stored so the pin can be shown to others and later removed by you.
  • Remembering your Quick Phrases and settings — stored locally so they're there next time you open the app.

We don't use your data for advertising, profiling, or anything beyond these features.

03

Data sharing

We don't sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for commercial purposes.

Text sent for reply suggestions and anything you share to the community map is processed and stored using Google Firebase, under Google's own security and privacy standards. Community map pins are, by design, visible to anyone using Ariadne — that's the point of the feature — but they carry only a suggested response, an optional preset reaction, and a location, never your name or contact details.

We may disclose information if legally required to, but we have no way to identify you beyond the anonymous device ID unless you contact us directly.

04

Storage & security

Data sent to Ariadne's backend and community map data in Firebase travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and is hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure.

Quick Phrases and app preferences are stored locally on your device using standard iOS app storage. Removing the app deletes this local data. Anything you've shared to the community map can be removed independently, at any time, from Settings → My shared pins.

05

Your rights

Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the GDPR or CCPA may give you rights over your data, including:

  • Access — ask what data is associated with your anonymous device ID.
  • Deletion — remove anything you've shared to the community map yourself, any time, from Settings → My shared pins — no need to contact us. For anything else, email us and we'll delete it.
  • Objection — ask us to stop a particular use of your data.

Because Ariadne has no accounts, we can only act on requests tied to a device ID you provide us, or on data you've shared publicly and can point us to.

06

Children's privacy

Ariadne is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has shared information through the app, contact us and we'll remove it.

07

Third-party services

Ariadne relies on the following services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

ServicePurposePolicy
Google Firebase Community map storage, anonymous device identity, app security firebase.google.com/support/privacy
Google Maps Platform Renders the community map policies.google.com/privacy
Apple App distribution, on-device speech recognition, app-store services apple.com/legal/privacy

We don't use any advertising SDKs or third-party analytics.

08

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Ariadne after a change means you accept the updated policy.
